Fall 2011 - Mary Belanger

Mary has been writing articles for Suite 101 since October 2009. She is also an author of many short stories written in a variety of genres. After completing a writer certificate program through Confederation College in Thunder Bay's e-Learning department she has become exposed to a variety of writing which includes journalism, poetry, short stories, exploring children's literature, and she has gained publication knowledge as well. After studying the world of fantasy she has acquired an appreciation for the literary works of writers such as J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien, and C.S. Lewis.

In the May 2010 edition of More of Our Canada an article Mary wrote about her friend and her volunteering efforts is included. In the spring of 2010 Wynterblue Publishing of North Bay, Ontario put four of her stories in an anthology of short stories called Confabulation Three. Her ultimate goal is to write a series of children's fantasy books and dedicate them to her grandchildren who inspire her to write.

Mary is also a graduate of an office administration program. She completes contract jobs of both medical and legal transcriptionist. Other freelance jobs include duties of support staff in various offices and working in accounting departments.

In her earlier working career she was an early childhood educator working in daycare settings. At heart, she is a child herself who often joins young children in their play.

In addition to writing Mary enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends.
